　　半远洋沉积是浅海中的沉积物颗粒在水体中垂直沉降形成的，沉积作用方式与浊流、等深流、碎屑流（泥石流）等完全不同。现代半远洋沉积中往往伴随大量的生物遗迹，如动藻迹等。单新表示，由于沉积物短柱中的泥是斑驳状的且可以看到遗迹化石，另外他们在峡谷中近底观测时也看到了大量的生物遗迹，因此推测发现的沉积属于半远洋沉积。由于这个峡谷近期并没有浊流发生，在峡谷中发现大范围的半远洋沉积表明了峡谷中的沉积作用方式多样。单新说，虽然他们在海底峡谷内发现了超临界浊流形成的旋回坎构造，但由于这些旋回坎的表层沉积物粒度属于粉砂、黏土级且表层沉积物的生物遗迹众多，因此推测这些旋回坎构造可能在数百或数千年前形成并保存下来。　　据吴斌介绍，由于半远洋沉积是逐层由水体中的沉积物颗粒垂直沉降而成的，因此利用半远洋沉积的有孔虫等微体古生物的种类、丰度以及一些地球化学指标就可以重建古海洋参数，如盐度、温度、氧气含量等。　　海底峡谷是沉积物搬运的重要通道，这里海底浊流频发，可能会导致重大的地质灾害，对油气平台、海底通信电缆等海底设施构成巨大的威胁。吴斌表示，峡谷演化与沉积物搬运过程备受学术界关注，是当前海洋地质学和全球变化研究的前沿和热点问题，因而开展峡谷深潜就显得非常重要。　　而在航段深潜作业发现半远洋沉积的南海海底峡谷中，研究沉积物搬运过程有特殊的实用价值。据单新介绍，因为南海峡谷沉积中富含油气资源，峡谷中的水道、天然堤等是重要的油气储层，研究峡谷演化和沉积物搬运过程可以预测储层的位置、孔隙度、渗透率等，另外南海峡谷中不少位置富含天然气水合物资源。　　由于峡谷深潜可以精准定位某一特定峡谷，深海勇士号的精准取样对于重建峡谷不同位置的水动力条件具有重要意义。吴斌说。据他介绍，在搭乘深潜器下潜到海底峡谷的考察中，他们观察到波长数百米的旋回坎沉积构造、多种生物遗迹化石，获取了大量高精度地形地貌资料及影像资料等，采集了多个长约30厘米的沉积物短柱样品，他们取得的短柱样品中还蕴含着丰富的古海洋信息，可以用来重建古环境变化。大型红色花灯剧《省委书记王德三》在梅兰芳大剧院演出8月3日晚，大型红色花灯剧《省委书记王德三》在北京梅兰芳大剧院进行了首场演出。
